1830- Robert Alexander Dyer is born in Missouri.

1852 - Robert probably meets Elizabeth after he has moved to Indiana since she was born there. We think they probably married about 1851 in Indiana. This where their first daughter, Elizabeth, is born. [US census 1900, Clinton, Indiana enum. dist. #44, p. 10]

1857- They move back to Missouri where their second child, Asa Theodore, is born. [US census 1900, Clinton, Indiana enum. dist. #44, p. 10]

1859- The Dyer family moves again. This time they go to Illinois where their third child, Samuel, is born. [US census 1900, Clinton, Indiana enum. dist. #44, p. 10]

1860-Robert Dyer is listed here in Pike County, Illinois. [US census, Pike Co., Illinois]

1861-64 - During the Civil War it seems that the Dyer family decided to leave Indiana for Missouri. We don't know if Robert was involved in the Civil War but this is what we are assuming at this point. He seems to be having some of his family still living in Missouri. [US census 1900, Clinton, Indiana enum. dist. #44, p. 10]

by 1871- They move again. This time to Indiana where their youngest child, Lottie, is born. They remain here through at least 1900 where they are found on the census. [US census 1900, Clinton, Indiana enum. dist. #44, p. 10]

1880- Sugar Creek Township, Boone County, Indiana. (US Census)

1898, January 30 - Robert A. Dyer letter to his granddaughter Maud Dyer. (transcribed by Marlene Grubb from the original found in the family bible, spelling and punctuation as written)
From this letter, written to his granddaughter, Maud, who is fifteen at the time. We see that Robert's middle initial is A. (might be Asa, since he named his son Asa) and he spelled his name "Dyre."

He and his wife were both alive in 1898 in Frankfort, Clinton Co., Indiana. His son Asa Theodore (Hazel Dyer Grubb's father) is living with them at the time and that he had some problem with his eyes. He also names a Bettyan living in Red Oak, Iowa.

Also living in the same house were Aunt Bird and her three children and Lottie. They had previously lived in Manson, Clinton Co., Indiana. They may have been in this area for some time since both he and his wife were born in Indiana. Manson Co. is just a few miles from Frankfort.

1900- Robert A. Dyer (70 years of age) is listed as born in Missouri, father born in Indiana, mother born in Missouri and is a day laborer. His wife, Liza J. (70 years of age) is born n Indiana, her father and father are born in Pennsylvannia. Liza confides she has had six children with five alive. Her daughters Lottie Hampton(23 years old, born Oct 1871 in Indiana) and Mary J. Scott is also living with them (36 years) born June 1863 in Missouri. Mary has her three children here, Ida B. (dau., aged 20), James R. (son, aged 18), and Perry C. (son, aged 17). [US census 1900, Clinton, Indiana enum. dist. #44, p. 10]
