The records on this family were developed Lewis Wood before 1995 and forwarded to me by his cousin, Elizabeth (Graydon) Peery.
These researchers believe that Mathew Graydon is the brother of my Thomas Graydon. Although there is no proof to verify this at this time I include this Graydon in the line with the hope that someone will provide the needed connective material. You will also note that there are a few disagreements with what I put together for the family of Thomas Graydon. For instance James is included in both families for the time being.
1800 - Thomas Graydon shows up in the US
Census of Laurens County, South Carolina.
1810 - U.S. Census Laurens Co., S. C. Matthew Graydon shows up on the same page in this census.
1830 - Drury Boyce's Will, Packet 4, Bundle 11, Laurens Co., C. H.
1843 - James Graydon gave receipt for a
tract of land under the Will of Drury Boyce.
Notes by the researchers Lewis Wood, "From the above I(LAW)
deduce the following the - Drudy Boyce married Matthew's daughter and
his father-in-law was living on his land. So to take care of the old
man, he gave the land to his brother-in-law, James Graydon. James was
too young to be married to one of Drury's daughters (they were minors),
so the only other logical explanation was - he had married Thomas
Graydon's daughter. Harris Thompson (my line LAW) who owned adjacent
land, also married Matthew's daughter, Lucinda Green. " [records of
Lewis Wood]
James Thompson of Cape Fear and John Mackenzie of Charles Town merchant, bond to Gov. Glen, 7th. November 1744. Licence to Rev. Alexander Graden to marry James Thompson and Margaret Mckay spinster. Signed by Jas. Thompson and John Mackenzie. [CHARLESTON COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA - ABSTRACTS FROM MARRIAGE BONDS OF SOUTH CAROLINA December 1743-November 1744]
