The following story of the family was written by Maurice Jenson, son of Canute Jenson and Emma Rohne.
Canute Jenson, son of Jens and Siri (Swenson) Jenson was born on October 29th, 1887, Gary Creek, Texas. Emma Rohne, daughter of Evan and Mariane (Egeberg) Rohne was born on December 1st, 1889, Cranfills Gap, Texas. They were married on October 31, 1917 at Saint Olaf Lutheran Church, Cranfills Gap, Texas. They were the first couple to be married in the then new Saint Olaf Church.1930 - US Census. Big Bend Township, Chippewa Co, Minnesota. enum. dist. 12-1 sheet 7.My father Canute Jenson was a Lutheran pastor. He served as a Chaplin in the United States Army during the first World War, stationed in San Antonio, Texas. Following the war, he was sent to Berthold, North Dakota where he spent five years. He then accepted a four congregation parish in the Big Bend are, near Milan in Minnesota. He severed that parish for close forty years. Canute died November 13th, 1961 and Emma on August 1, 1968. They are buried in the Rock Church Cemetary, Cranfills Gap, Texas.
Canute and Emma had six children, five boys (in a row) and one girl.
Dr. James Edward Jenson. Born October 15th, 1918, San Antonio, Texas. Married Ruth Carlstad on September 25th, 1943. Four Children. Attended Clifton Junior College for two years, graduated from Luther College in 1941, and then went on to study medicine at the University of Minnesota. He spent most of his practice as a general practitioner in Stillwater, Minnesota. His wife died on June 16, 2000.
Sherman Milton Jenson. Born January 15, 1920, in Berthold, North Dakota. Married Georganne Blaul on October 14, 1948. One daughter. Attended Clifton Junior College for two years, graduated from Luther college in 1941, and received a Master's Degree from La Salle College. At the time of his retirement, Sherm was president of the National Investors Life Insurance Company, Little Rock, Arkansas. He died on October 16, 1988 and Georganne on May 11, 1990. Both are buried in the Rock Church Cemetery in Cransfills Gap, Texas.
Dr. Corrol "Hap" Eugene Jenson. Born September1, 1921, in Berthold, North Dakota. Married Sara Marie Kahn on December 20, 1945. One son. Graduated from Luther College in 1943, and from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Dentistry. After a two year stint as a Navy dentist, he set up practice in Bayport, Minnesota where he spent the remainder of his career, retiring in 1986.
Maurice Theodore Jenson. Born December 21, 1922, Berthold, North Dakota. Married (Olive) Jeane Arneson on August 30, 1947. three children. Graduated from Luther College in 1948 and from the University of Minnesota with a Master's Degree in Educational Administration. Spent most of his working years as School Business Administrator for Stillwater Area Schools, Stillwater, Minnesota, retiring in 1986.
Dr. Paul Gerhard Jenson. Ph. D. Born June 27, 1925 in Hagen, a small village, near Milan, Minnesota. Married Elizabeth Ann Dybdal on August 22, 1948. Six children (two deceased). Graduated from Luther College in 1948. Subsequently earned a Ph.D., in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. Taught at Macalester College, St. Paul, Minnesota and the Colorado College for Women in Denver, Colorado and served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. At the time of his retirement he was President of Thomas College, also in Maine.
Lois Dorothy Jenson. Born May 31, 1929 in Hagen, Minnesota. Attended Luther college for two years before transferring to Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she received her R. N. degree from Fairview Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota. At the time of her retirement she was "Supervisor of Nurses at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
All five brothers served their country in World War II. James Edward and Paul served in the Army and Sherm, Hap and Maury served in the Navey. Hap also served two years in the Navy during the Korean War.
All six children followed their parents' example of service to church and community, serving on many on boards and holding offices in various organizations. As an example, Hap served several terms as mayor of Bayport, Minnesota and Paul was a District Governor of rotary International. All have served in various capacities in their churches.
