The family developed
is based on the the genealogy of the Roskilde Cathedral,
Roskilde, Denmark. This cathedral is one of the oldest in
Denmark and is the burial place of the largest number of king,
queens and other nobility in all of Europe including Harold
Bluetooth, one of the greatest kings of Denmark.
These families have
records and the family crests are found in the Roskilde
Cathedral web site and go back to about 1100.
Canute Erikson was the only legitimate son of Erik I of Denmark
and Boedil Thurgotsdatter. He was passed over in the line
of succession due to being a minor. He grew up in
Sjaelland among the Hvide family who became his major
supporters. He was made an Earl by his uncle over the
territories of south Jutland (Schleswig) to end the attacks of
the Slavic Obodrits. He established a peace for fifteen
years which earned him the title of "King of Obodrits". His
close relations to the Holy Roman Emperor also earned him
suspicion of being disloyal to Denmark and numerous
enemies. He is trapped in a forest by the troops of Magnus
the Strong and murdered. This leads to a civil war which
lasted until 1157. The victory of his son Valdemar I
finally resolves the issue and leads to the canonization of
Canute in 1170. [Boye - geni.com]
