The Lindholm Cemetery is a Viking age cemetery just outside of the city of Aalborg.  It was covered with sand dunes until the 19 century when stone of cemetery were broken up and used for road construction.  Although some excavations were done in 1889 the most important work was begun in 1952 when excavations found numerous sites and artifacts. The site may have had as many as 700 or more graves of which 589 have been documented.

The cemetery remained hidden for centuries being covered by sand dunes which probably also forced the abandonment of the nearby village by 1200.  The male graves are marked with ship shaped rock placement while female graves are usually a round or oval setting of stones.  Jewelry in various stones and metals, coins of bronze, silver and gold, and remnants of fabric give a wider picture of the trade from distant places such as the Middle East.  The neighboring Lindholm Høje Museum, despite its size, is very good for its variety and exhibitions. Although rather small, it is highly recommended.
