Here I've tried to identify the locations of the
farms or residences on which they were born or lived. They
did move around so they may listed more than one time.
Generally, north Jutland peninsula is built with sand dunes from
the winds beating against the tides and currents of the Baltic and
North Sea. The currents have cut channels through the
peninsula which were used historically for trade and
transportation to the inland areas of Denmark. Some ports
such as Ribe were badly silted over the years and went out of
favor as a major trade center. We have fairly good records
for the family residence here back to about 850 to the family of
"Gorm the Old", King of Denmark. Good written records exist after
the Catholic Church comes in about 950 a.d. They were used
primarily to reinforce the heritage of the royal families so
records for peasants and slaves are missing and seen as
insignificant. Most of our relatives were in the later
category and were some how able to scrape by but all the while
residing on the peninsula. My own DNA I1-L22 seems to be
centered on this piece of land for hundreds if not thousands of
years even though their names are lost forever in history.
Until only recently the various islands of Denmark were only
accessible to one another and the peninsula by ferry or private
ships. There now are two major bridges which allow
trucks and autos to cross from Jutland to Malmo, Sweden.
