The Odby Church is north of the Gulf of Lim Fjord that almost cuts the northern peninsula of Denmark in half leading from the North Sea to Aalborg then out to the Baltic Sea.  It is on the edge of Søndbjerg hamlet that also has another church with family connections. The Søndbjerg Kirke may perhaps be older than the Odby Kirke.

The Odby parish was established in 1283 in the southern area of Thyholm.  Both Søndbjerg and Odby Kirke are Lutheran churches that are part of this same parish and each have their own cemetery and unique history.  It is an easy walk from one to the other.

A history of the parish was written and updated in 1959 by Paul Nedegaard.  It is written in Danish and available on the church web site, titled:  Personalhistoriske, Sognehistoriske og Statistiske Bidrag Til En Dansk Praeste Og Sognehistorie (Kirkelig Geografi) 1849-1949 (1959) V. Aalborg Stift. Kobenhaven 1959.
