The Søndbjerg Kirke was likely constructed in the Romanesque style about 1100s.  This about the same time other churches of the area were going up.  It was part of the big push of the Catholic church to convert the heathen north.

The church is Romanesque and has from the beginning consisted of nave, chancel, apse and tower. In the southwest corner of the tower is a rune stone that serves as base stone. It has the inscription: "Jacob caused, Skjalm did, where the altar is, there is the eye". It may be that the stone first been placed under the altar and only got its present location after the church at an early stage has a new tower.

We have a number of relatives that live in the region whose lives revolved around this church for generations.  My grandfather Poul Møller Christensen operated a bakery that backed up to the church land.  The bakery was passed onto other relatives until it was torn down.  The land presently has an apartment house built in its place.
