Henry A. Jones graduated from South
Carolina College. He studies law and passes the bar. He
practises law in both South Carolina and Arkansas. This seems to
qualify him for the executors position on his brothers will that
shows the relationship of the various family members you can
find under the records of his father, Benjamin Jones II.
1840 - US Census, South Carolina,
Abbeville., p. Henry is here with his new
bride. no children and no slaves.
1850 - He is on the census in Abbeville as
Henry A. Jones, lawyer 33 years old. [US Census. South
Carolina, Abbeville. p. 46]

Whereas I wish to make some provision for my daughter Isabella F. the wife of H.A. Jones and her children, Mary Elizabeth and Sarah Fickling for the love and affection I bear my said daughter and in consideration of one dollar to me paid by H. A. Jones. I, James R. Verdier of Beaufort in the state of South Carolina aforesaid have granted bargained sold and delivered by these presents do grant bargain sell and delivered unto the said H. A. Jones the following named slaves viz.-Venus, Phebe, Israel, Brit and his wife Dolly and their child Dorcas-to have and to hold the same and their issue and increase unto the said H.A. Jones, his heirs, Executors and administrators forever in trust, nevertheless for the sole and separate use of my said daughter Isabella F. durng her life and at her death for the sole and separate use of my two granddaughters above named so that the same and their issue shall not be liable for the debts, contracts or demands in any whatsoever of her present or any future husband nor for the depts or contracts of the husbands should they ever marry of my said granddaughters and in case of the death of my said daughter and granddaughters without leaving children surviving them during the life of my son-in-law the said H.A. Jones the said slaves with their issue and increase in that event to be absolutely his the said H.A. Jones free from the above trust.

This early record was proved after H. A. Jones' first wife had died, by 1861. So Isabella F. Verdier Jones received no benefit but her daughters did get an inheritance but not until they sued their father for their share. He is also listed on documents to transfers two slaves to his neice, Mary O. Terry in 1857.
1859 - His first wife Isabella dies and he
has a tough time keeping up with necessary business activities.
He is sued for debts to various individuals.
1860 - US Census Abbeville, South Carolina,
Roll: 1212 Page: 25 on June 22.
Henry is still in Abbeville and is single living with his two
teenage daughters near the Abbeville Court House.

He converted to the Methodist faith and became an active member in the church in Arkansas.
