1859 - The following will of S. T. C. P. Jones and subsequent probate record over a period of years links the several brothers and other relatives together. Although S. T. C. P. Jones dies by 18 June 1859 the final settlement of the estate did not take place until 15th day of March 1861. During this time H. A. Jones, who was the executor, had moved to Arkansas along with several nephews. Boldface added by me - EC.

1861-
Whereas Henry A. Jones of District and State aforesaid is of his creditors and sureties and whereas Dennis F. Jones his nephew is his surety and endorser for about six thousand dollars, for which liability the said Henry A. Jones has confessed judgment in Abbeville, South Carolina; and whereas Dr. William T. Jones his brother is his surety for about the sum of seven thousand dollars in whole or in part secured by confessions of judgment in Abbeville, South Carolina; and whereas the said Henry A. Jones is indebted to his two daughters, Elizabeth M. Gray, wife of John Gray and Sally F. (Sarah Fickling) Johnson the wife of James Johnson, each in the sum of fifteen hundred dollars and eighty-five cents with interest from the first of January A. D. 1861 and also to his niece Mary T. Jones and his nephew Calhoun Jones, children of Dr. N. S. Jones deceased each in the sum of five hundred and twenty dollars and eighty five cents with interest from the first of January A. D. 1861 -- This indebtedness to his two daughters and his niece and nephew amounts in the whole to four thousand one hundred and fifty dollars and ninety-eight cents and represents legacies of them under the Will of S. T. C. P. Jones deceased secured to the females as a sole and separate estate and upon which the said H. A. Jones has confessed judgment in Abbeville District, South Carolina to the said John Gray subject to the trusts and limitations of the aforesaid Will and whereas B. F. Jones his brother is his surety and endorser to various persons to the amount of about fourteen thousand dollars which in whole or in part is secured by confession of judgment by the said Henry A. Jones; and whereas James D. Cobb is his surety to about the about of thirteen hundred dollars which is secured to the said Cobb by a confession of judgment by the said H. A. Jones; and whereas the said Henry A. Jones is indebted to Gray and Robertson, merchants of Abbeville, South Carolina in the sum of seventeen hundred and sixty nine dollars an sixty-eight cents by sealed note and whereas a schedule of the foregoing debts and liabilities is hereto attached in which they are more particularly set forth and specified and to which reference is made and whereas the said Henry A. Jones is indebted to Murphy, Sykes and Co., of New Orleans in sum of about five thousand dollars for money advanced by them in payment of his lands in the State of Arkansas hereinafter mentioned; and whereas the said Henry A. Jones is also indebted to Gladdein(sic) and Seixas(sic) of New Orleans for money advanced by them to assist the said H. A. Jones in keeping up and carring on his planting interest in the State of Arkansas aforesaid mounting to about fifteen hundred dollars; and whereas judgments in the State of South Carolina against the said H. A. Jones older and prior to the above mentioned confessions of judgments and liabilities under it possible that the aforementioned minor judgments and debts may not be satisfied in whole or in part out of the property of the said H. A. Jones in the State of South Carolina and the said H. A. Jones being anxious to protect from loss his aforementioned sureties and endorsers for the purpose makes the following assignment of his entire property, real and personal and all his interest situated and being in the State of Arkansas.
Therefore, be it known to all persons by these presents that I, Henry A. Jones, of Abbeville District, South Carolina, in consideration of the foregoing premises, and of five dollars to me paid by Dennis F. Jones of the same State and District do hereby and herein assign, convey and transfer and set over to the said Dennis F. Jones the following property in the State of Arkansas and County of Hempstead:
First of all my right title and interest in a tract of land containing about eleven hundred and forty seven acres (1147) seven hundred and seven of which as purchased in 1859 from M. M. Magee and for which I hold his bond for titles to be made up on payment of the purchase money; three hundred and twenty of which was purchased from Alfred Morris in 1860 and one hundred and twenty from G. K. Cheatham in 1860, this tract of land 1147 acres in subject however to the payment of the purchase money.
Second; And the following named slaves, Viz: Abram, Charlotte his wife, Margaret their daughter, Anny, Louisa, Tom her son, Hany and his wife Harriett, Tome and Charly his wife Franky, Laura her daughter, Matilda, Spence, George, Pascol and Stero. But the only other slave on the plantation belonging to my aforesaid two daughters under a trust deed from their grandfatehr, Dr. Verdier of Beaufort, South Carolina, if I have any right or interest in Britt it is included in this assignment. The increase of the female slaves is also included.
Third: All mules, horses, cattle, corn, fodder and every description of personal property on said plantation or elsewhere in Arkansas and not before specified and embraced herein.
This assignment and conveyance to the said Dennis F. Jones is made upon the following expressed trusts, that is to say, to sell and dispose of the aforesaid plantation or tract of land, the aforesaid slaves and all other personal propery embraced herein whenever in his judgment a sale of them may most benefit my creditors and sureties herein named; to sell the crop or crops, to collect all debts and to make all necessary titles to purchasers out of the proceeds fo sales and all monies collected under this assignment the said assignee will pay
First: The sum of five hundred dollars ($500) to Edward Noble, attorney for professional services heretofore rendered and for preparing this instrument. The assignee over and above this commissions of five per cent upon all monies received and paid out by him under this assignment is to be allowed in addition thereto, his travelling expenses and all other necessary expenses incurred by him in carrying out this assignment including fees for professional services if necessary. And also the sum of five hundred dollars to G. W. Caldwell for overseer's wages during the year of 1860.
Secondly: After paying the above the assignee is directed to apply the funds in hand arising under this assignment to the payment of the aforementioned debt due the said Murphy, Sykes and Co., of New Orleans, Louisiana by the said H. A. Jones amounting to about five thousand dollars and the aforementioned debt due the said Gladdein and Seizas the New Orleans, Louisiana by teh said H. A. Jones amounting to about fifteen hundred dollars.
Thirdly: After discharging the above mentioned debts the assignee will apply the funds remaining on hand or so much thereof as may be necessary to payment of the judgments confessin the Abbeville District, South Carolina to the said Dennis F. Jones and the said Dr. William T. Jones should there remain anything due on the them after seeking satisfaction from the property of the said H. A. Jones in South Carolina. It is expressly stipulated that these judgments shall be satisfied out of property in South Carolina if possible and only in case they can not be so satisfied are they to take anything under the assignment. ( This assignment)
Fourthly: After the above judgments are satisfied the assignee shall apply the funds in hand to the payment of the before described debts due the two daughters and the niece and nephew of the said H. A. Jones which debts are consolidated and judgments confessed to John Gray as aforesaid. If, however, this judgment can be paid in whole or in part out of defendant's property in South Carolina it shall be so satisfied to the relief of the property herein assigned.
Fifthly: After satisfying the above mentioned debts the assignee is directed to apply the balance of funds in hand or so much as may be necessary to the aforesaid judgment confessed to B. F. Jones and to reimburse him for any payment he may have to make in behalf of the said H. A. Jones and not covered by the said judgment and also the judment confessed to the siad J. H. Cobb. If the funds will not pay these judgments and liabilities in full they are to be distributed to them pro rata.
Sixthly: After paying the aforesaid debts if there be a residue of funds in the hands of the assignee he is hereby directed to pay them to the debt of Gray and Robertson heretofore described.
Seventhly: If still after payment of all the foregoing debts and liabilities there is a residue the assignee is directed to apply such residue notably to the payment of all my other debts, if there be any.

Be it known that on this the 15th day of March in the year A. D. 1861 personally appeared the above named Henry A. Jones acknowledged and stated that he had executed the within the and foregoing deed to the said Dennis F. jones for the consideration and purposes therein mentioned and set forth and the said Dennis F. Jones acknowledge and stated that he accepted of the provisions mentioned and specified in said deed for the consideration and purposes therin mentioned and set forth. In Testimony whereof I have hererunto set my hand as such clerk an affixed the seal of said Court on this 15th day of March 1861.
