Abraham Grubb Family
Germany, Virginia and Tennessee

Although we have not been able to confirm with documentation that Abraham (who married Rebecca) is the child of Abraham, there is a good deal of circumstantial evidence. These families including the identified brother of Abraham, Jacob, John and Nicolas bought property in the same area as Abraham and Elizabeth and "Abram"(who married Rebecca.) We hope that someone reading this will forward the necessary proof. We are looking for bible, probate records or wills that connect the relatives together.

One of his brothers settles in Virginia while the others spread out over the area around Bristol into what is presently Tennessee. This region has a particularly interesting history that can be seen on another page.

1769, Oct 31 - Jacob Kropf (Croop) is listed as an elder in the Peaked Mountain Church and the Stony Creek, on October 31st, Anno Domini 1769.   also here is Daniel Kropf,

1770- Abraham Grubb is listed in the Coventry Bethren Church, Penn.  He doesn't seem to stay here very much longer.

See the state of Franklin /the Sullivan County History
1778- Abraham is named executor of Christian's will and received 2/3 of the land on Sinking Creek. [Will of Christian Grubb]

1781- Abraham receives a land grant to 210 acres on the north side of the Holston River, on Sinking Creekin the region that eventually becomes Tennessee. [North Carolina Grants in Tenn. 1778-1791]

1784- Abraham sells the inherited land of Christian to Abel Roberts. He also sell the land inherited from his mother' share.

1787- Jacob, Abraham's brother, received and grant to 200 acres on both sides of Sinking Creek.

1791 / 1801 - the sons, John and Jacob marry the Shelley sisters. [Marriage Records, Abingdon, VA]

1796- Tennessee Census,    these census give no other information than the names
Jacob Grubb     TN, Sullivan Co.  1796
John Grubb       TN, Sullivan Co.  1796
Jacob Grubb     TN,  Sullivan Co., 1797
John Grubb       TN, Sullivan Co.,  1797
Abram Grubb    TN, Sullivan Co.,  1812
Jacob Grubb      TN, Sullivan Co.,  1812  [Tennessee Census, 1796-91]

North Carolina Land Grant records show that in the early 1780's both old Abraham and old Jacob received 200 and 210 acres of land in consideration of 50 shillings per 100 acres. These were not recorded in Sullivan Co deed books until Aug 9,1787...probably because of the ending of the Revolution and Tennessee becoming a State.

1814- Abraham Grubb Jr goes off to fight in the War of 1812 against the British and Creek Indians. In the pension application records for Abram he states that he becomes fevered and crippled. We suspect that he was so ill as to not be able to maintain the land that he bought in 1812 from his brother.

Abram Grubb is listed as Private in Captain Robert Wilson's Company, 5th Battalion, Chester county, Pa. Militia.

By 1815 Abram Grubb Jr apparently needs to sell the land to survive and transfers the land again to his brother Jacob Grubb. We still don't have any thing to tell us whether the land was inherited from his father or land that he bought from Abraham Sr.'s brother Jacob. sources:
