Dean Dudley stated that Jesse Thing moved to Industry, Maine which is known for its potash industry.

1820 - US Census, Industry, Somerset Co., Maine
Dudley L. Thing is living next door to Samuel Thing in the town of Industry,  Somerset Co., Maine, roll 38, page 295/
Dudley is the only one with a child of the correct age for the birth of Jesse.
Although there are 10 other Thing families in Maine, none of the rest live in Somerset Co.  Samuel seems to a young single male, next door, a possible older son of Dudley.

1840- U.S. Census Maine,  Industry City,  Franklin Co.,  David Thing should be the youngest male in the family in this census.
