I don't know who the original ancestor of
the Roney family in the United States may have been. It is
understood that Hugh Roney was the brother of Maurice Roney. I
am hoping to develop this information with clues from other
researchers. I'm collecting here records that may show some clue
as to who that immigrant may be. Roney is generally viewed
as an Irish name but this pretty distant and records are difficult
to come by but and difficult to interpret.
1738, Feb 5 - This
particular record is the oldest record of a Roney in the
colonies. It seems to be an inventory of goods in the
estate but is limited in information. All the Headley has
included is listed her.

1755- There are a number James Roney
records in Pennsylvania in the late 1700's. They represent
a group that migrates in Tennessee and later Illinois and
Indiana whereas there seems to another group also James Roney
records that migrates in North Carolina, later into South
Carolina. There are also newer James Roney immigrants.
Separating them is a major problem.
1755- North Carolina, Orange County, no
township listed.
James
Roney is listed in early census records. [North
Carolina Early Census 1790-1890]
